Hard work is something I have definitely had a change of
opinion on. When I was younger, if I saw
a person do anything really well then I thought he or she was born with that talent. It never really occurred to me that it takes
hard work and dedication if you want to do something right.
The best way I can describe this is through professional
athletes. I used to think that David
Ortiz had a natural ability to hit homeruns, Kobe Bryant had something in his
blood so that he could knock down every jump shot, Lionel Messi had special
legs to become arguably the best soccer player in the world today. I thought you had to be born with a special
talent and that’s what made you great.
That all changed when I started playing high school sports. It changed my views on what it takes to
succeed. Kobe didn’t become a future
hall of famer overnight. He practiced
night and day. He would be the first one
at practice and the last one to leave.
Natural talent is helpful but if you want to strive to become the best,
it isn’t something to rely on. You have
to put in the effort if you want to see the results. To some people, a high school sport is just
away to get your P.E. credits. However,
for me it changed my entire perspective on what it takes to be the best.
Hard work won’t give you results in a few hours. It’s a long process but if you put in the
effort, you will see change. And yes,
you might fall and want to quit along the way.
That’s where you have to ask yourself.
Do you want to give up on something you’ve been working toward? I’m glad
my opinion changed on what hard work does because if it didn’t, I wouldn’t be
trying to lead myself to a career that could help create a better lifestyle for
my family.
You are right, to get good at something you have to put a lot of time and work into it. Learning to deal with failure is also something that comes with hard work
ReplyDeleteI can definitely agree with you on your opinion about how it's hard work, not just natural talent, that makes someone good at what they do. That's exactly how it was for me when I was starting to teach myself guitar, photography, and writing almost 7 years ago. You may be born with the special hands, mind, eyes, or anything else, but they're all worthless if you don't put the same effort into them as the success you want them to put out.
ReplyDeleteHard work is definitely the best way to get something you really want. A lot of people still don’t understand the whole concept of it. That’s so awesome that you’ve changed your views on it, because it is a huge deal.
ReplyDeleteI'm with you one hundred percent of the way on this one. Hard work and dedication will always beat out natural talent.
ReplyDeleteI also think that hard work makes a person different from the rest. I admire mechanics that know their stuff, and they didn't acquire the knowledge on parts and tools. Hard work was a major factor in their past.
ReplyDeleteMany people do have natural talent but not always for sports. Many people work hard to get better at what they are already naturally gifted in.
ReplyDeleteSome people are just natural gifted. But majority of others are just dedicated and are hard workers doing things they love.
ReplyDeleteHard work is the key to success, whether it's succeeding in school or in sports, but to some sports come easily. A lot has to do with their body size. It's harder for a small athlete to be good than a big one. You definitely need to work hard for a long time.
ReplyDeleteI agree with you. When I started dancing, I sucked really bad compared to my best friend who was naturally great at dancing. This motivated me to train hard and work hard to get better. Ultimately I got close to his level because of all the hard work.
ReplyDeleteI used to think the same thing when I was younger. until I seen my brother try to learn how to skate, play the drums, guitar, and a bunch of other things is when I realized it all takes practice
ReplyDeleteI used to believe only the talented succeeded in life. I also believed that only that was needed to be the best but as I grew older and wiser, I realized that you must put an effort into something to truly get anything out of it. Wonderful blog, Brandon.
